Day 5: Hue City Tour (B)
Hue city was the capital of Vietnam from 1802 to 1945 under the 13 Emperors of the Nguyen dynasties. The World Tourism Organization (WTO) has classified Hue as one of the four main attraction centers of Vietnam. Hue is famous for its magnificent architecture of citadels, palaces, pagodas, and royal tombs, built in poetic surroundings on the banks of the Perfume River.
In the morning we have a boat ride on the Perfume River and visit Thien Mu Pagoda. Our next stop is the Imperial Citadel and the Forbidden City, created in the 19th century for the Emperors under Nguyen Dynasty.
Afternoon, visit the tomb of Emperor Tu Duc. Located 7 km from Hue, the tomb of Tu Duc is one of the most beautiful sights in Hue. He breathes tranquility and is a model of traditional Vietnamese art. This is also an opportunity to learn about the history of the dynasty Nguyen and the French colonial invasion. You can also visit Tu Hieu Pagoda. Located 5 km from Hue and close to the tomb of Emperor Tu Duc Tu Hieu Pagoda serenity. In the shelter of a pine forest, it was built in 1843 by the monk Nhat Dinh. Built on a hillside, this pagoda has a very quiet location. It also houses a community of monks who remains very active. In the garden, you can see the graves of some royal mandarins. Visit this pagoda is interesting because it shows how the monastic life continues to be important in Hue, which remains the most important Buddhist center in Vietnam.
16h00: Return to hotel. Dinner on your own.
Overnight in Hue

Day 6: Hue – Hoi An (B)
In the morning, depart from Hue and take the scenic route along the Hai Van Pass to Hoi An. The three-hour drive takes you through picturesque landscapes with spectacular coastal views. Nestled on the Thu Bon River, Hoi An is a UNESCO World Heritage-listed town with a rich cultural, culinary, and creative heart. Standing out with its rows of bright yellow traditional houses, the town flourished during the 16th and 17th centuries as one of Southeast Asia’s most prosperous port towns. The diverse influence of Chinese, Japanese, and European traders can still be seen today in the town's eclectic mix of architecture, from the Japanese bridge to the old Chinese assembly hall, grand merchants' houses, and French colonial villas.
Arrive in Hoi An late in the morning. Check-in at the hotel and enjoy a free afternoon. Wander on foot or rent a bike to cycle along the car-and-motorbike-free streets—motorized vehicles are banned in the city. Along the way, you'll pass shuttered wooden buildings that date back to the 16th century. Order a custom-made outfit from one of the resident tailors and try some street-food snacks. For sunset views, head to one of the city's nearby beaches, loved for their soft, pale sands.
Overnight in Hoi An

Day 7: Cam Thanh Village Tour & Basket Boat Adventure (B)
Head just south of Hoi An today for an eco-tour of Cam Thanh Village, which is famous for its lush mangroves and 208-acre (84 ha) Bay Mau Palm Forest. You'll visit the bamboo handicraft center, where locals have been creating goods from coconut and bamboo since the beginning of the 19th century. Afterward, take a peaceful trip in a Vietnamese bamboo basket boat through the mangroves; you'll get the chance to paddle and try your hand at crab fishing.
In the afternoon, explore the charms of Hoi An’s old town on foot. Stroll through winding streets and past rows of traditional houses and admire the well-preserved architecture, from an 18th-century merchant's house known as the Old House of Tan Ky to the old Fukien Assembly Hall. Walk across the 400-year-old Japanese-covered bridge and stop by a local studio that makes traditional lanterns.
Overnight in Hoi An.

Day 8: Hoian – Danang – Saigon (B)
Transfer to the airport and fly to Ho Chi Minh City. Still lovingly referred to as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City is the bustling and vibrant economic center of the south. Full of contrasts, the city is known for its cosmopolitan vibe and energetic pace which is unlike any other city in Vietnam. Old French boulevards and colonial architecture stand beside traditional temples and modern skyscrapers, revealing a city of captivating diversity and charismatic charm. Explore some of the city's landmarks such as Reunification Palace (the former Presidential Palace), Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Central Post Office, a well-preserved 19th-century French colonial building with large vaulted ceilings.
Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 9: Saigon – Cu Chi Tunnels (B)
Take a drive about one and a half hours northwest of Ho Chi Minh City to explore one of the region’s most well-known wartime landmarks – the Cu Chi tunnels. The intriguing network of underground tunnels provided shelter and an effective source of infiltration for the Viet Cong during the later years of the Vietnam War. Catch a glimpse of life during the war as you experience crawling in tight, narrow passageways and through a series of caverns which consist of storage rooms, make-shift hospitals, and sleeping quarters. Transfer back to Ho Chi Minh City by private vehicle and stop for lunch at a local restaurant on the way. Consider enhancing your visit with an optional visit to a cricket farm to learn about a local culinary delicacy and taste a local-style cricket roll (supplementary fees apply).
Please note: The Cu Chi Tunnels are very narrow spaces which may cause discomfort, particularly for those who experience claustrophobia, fear of the dark or similar health conditions. However, crawling inside is entirely optional and you can spend more time exploring above ground if you prefer.

The Best Time to Visit Vietnam
The best time to visit Vietnam depends on the region you plan to explore. In general, the ideal time for a trip to Vietnam is during spring (February to April) or autumn (August to October), as the weather tends to be milder. However, specific areas of the country have distinct climates, so it's crucial to consider this when planning your visit.
Northern Vietnam, which includes Hanoi, Halong Bay, and Sapa, has four seasons. Spring (March to April) offers comfortable temperatures, blooming flowers, and a festive atmosphere due to the Lunar New Year celebrations. Autumn (September to November) is also a great time to visit, with cooler weather and clearer skies.
Central Vietnam, including cities like Hue, Hoi An, and Da Nang, experiences a tropical climate. The dry season, from February to August, is the best time to explore this region. However, keep in mind that the region can get quite hot during June and July, with temperatures reaching over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Southern Vietnam, encompassing Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) and the Mekong Delta, has a hot and humid climate year-round. The dry season, from December to April, is the most popular time to visit. During this time, you'll experience less rainfall, making it easier to explore the region's bustling cities and natural wonders.
If you're interested in exploring Vietnam's beaches, the best time to visit is from May to September, when the weather is warm and there's less rainfall along the coastal areas.
It's important to note that Vietnam can experience extreme weather events, such as typhoons and floods, particularly during the monsoon season from May to October. Therefore, it's essential to stay updated on weather forecasts and be prepared for sudden changes.
Overall, the best time to visit Vietnam largely depends on your personal preferences and the specific regions you want to explore.
What Should I Pack for Vietnam?
What you should pack for North Vietnam depends on the season and the activities you plan to do. However, some general items that you may need are:
- Lightweight rain jacket or poncho, especially if you are riding a motorbike or visiting during the rainy season
- Long trousers and long-sleeved shirt for visiting temples, pagodas, and other religious sites
- Warm clothes such as a fleece, sweater, or jacket for the colder months or the mountainous areas
- Sunscreen, sunglasses, and hat for sun protection
- Comfortable shoes for walking, hiking or biking
- Swimwear and beach towel if you plan to visit the coast or enjoy water activities
How Do I Get Around in Vietnam?
To get around in Vietnam, you can use various modes of transportation such as taxis, motorbikes, buses, trains, and cyclos. The choice will depend on your preference, budget, and the distance you need to travel.
1. Plane:
You can fly between major cities such as Hanoi, Hai Phong, Vinh, and Dien Bien Phu with domestic airlines such as Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air, and Bamboo Airways. Flying is fast and convenient, but also more expensive and less scenic than other options.
2. Taxis:
Taxis are widely available in major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. You can easily spot them in busy areas or book through various ride-hailing apps such as Grab or GoViet. Make sure the taxi is metered, or negotiate the fare beforehand to avoid any surprises.
3. Motorbikes:
Motorbikes are a popular mode of transportation in Vietnam. You can rent one if you have a valid international driving license or hire a motorbike taxi (known as "xe om"). Always wear a helmet and drive cautiously as traffic in Vietnam can be chaotic.
4. Buses:
Buses are a cheap and convenient way to get around Vietnam. They are available in most cities and towns, and you can find the bus schedule and routes at local bus stations or online websites. Be prepared for crowded buses and be attentive to your belongings.
5. Train:
Vietnam has an extensive railway system connecting major cities. Trains offer a comfortable and scenic way to travel between destinations. You can purchase tickets at train stations or through travel agencies. It's advisable to book in advance during peak travel seasons.
6. Car:
You can rent a car with or without a driver from reputable agencies such as Hanoi Premium Travel. Car rental gives you more freedom and comfort to explore Vietnam at your own pace. However, car rental is also more expensive, requires a valid driver’s license and international driving permit, and involves dealing with traffic, parking, and road conditions.
6. Cyclos:
Cyclos are three-wheeled pedicabs operated by a driver. They are mainly found in tourist areas and offer a relaxed and enjoyable way to explore the surroundings. Negotiate the fare before starting your ride to avoid any misunderstandings.
